What does God say about fear?

Hebrews 13:6   6 So we say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?"

Fear is something every generation has faced. No matter the time period, people have wrestled with it. Fear can be stirred up by all kinds of things like our jobs, relationships, politics, or health. It pulls our attention toward what might happen instead of what’s actually happening right now.

None of us wants fear to take over our lives, but sometimes it does. It can hold on tightly and feel hard to shake. Still, God is clear about this: He doesn’t want us living in fear. Through our relationship with Him, He wants peace—not fear—to have the final say in our lives.

Most of us would choose peace over fear any day. But in real life, our emotions can get loud. They can make it hard to hear or trust what God is saying through His Word. Fear can seem stronger than God’s invitation to peace, and in those moments, it’s natural to wonder where hope is supposed to come from.

Hope starts with honesty. If we’re afraid, then we’re afraid. We don’t have to pretend otherwise. God loves us just as much in our fear as He does in our peace. He meets us where we are and gently leads us forward. Because of what Jesus has done for us, we can find strength, peace, and assurance in God’s love. As we grow in that truth through the Gospel, we can begin to say no to fear. We don’t have to carry it alone—God is with us, and we can place our fears in His hands.
